Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
As we aspire to keep Jesus at the center of our lives, we are Rooted in Faith, and Growing in Love. We endeavor to be a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people, loving our neighbors because God first loved us.
March 17, 2024 · 10:45 am · Fifth Sunday of Lent
“Forgiveness cannot happen in isolation and certainly neither can reconciliation nor restoration. The movement toward wholeness is the movement toward one another.” (Lauren W. Pittman)
The featured image for today’s worship service is a mandala of forgiveness. This digital painting by Lauren Wright Pittman (A Sanctified Art) is inspired by Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 18:15-22. Jesus tells Peter to forgive one who has wronged him seventy-seven times. The painting contains 77 people and flowers, representing the abundant grace of God’s forgiveness which Jesus calls us to emulate.
Our Lenten theme, Wandering Heart · Figuring out Faith with Peter draws inspiration from the hymn “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” and focuses on stories of the disciple Peter. On this fifth Sunday of Lent, March 17, we will reflect on the line “teach me” as we seek to obey the teachings of Jesus regarding forgiveness and reconciliation.
The Sanctuary Choir will sing “Surely the Presence of the Lord” for the Call to Worship. Joseph Reed will read Psalm 119:9-16. The Hymn of Praise will be “Holy, Holy, Holy.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will read Matthew 18:15-22. The Offertory Hymn will be “Come, All Christians, Be Committed.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will give the Offertory Prayer and lead The Lord’s Prayer. Richard Reynolds Huss will play “God’s Time Is Best” for the Offertory. Joseph Reed and the Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “Mercy, O God.” Rev.
