Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
As we aspire to keep Jesus at the center of our lives, we are Rooted in Faith, and Growing in Love. We endeavor to be a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people, loving our neighbors because God first loved us.
March 24, 2024 · 10:45 am · Passion Sunday ∙ Palm Sunday
On Palm Sunday, we remember how Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem with palm branches and “songs of loudest praise.” Robert Robinson’s hymn, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” has guided our Lenten worship this season. Robinson wrote, “streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.” On Palm Sunday, we will sing songs of praise, worshiping Jesus. This Sunday is also Passion Sunday, as we prepare to remember the suffering and death of Jesus in the coming days.
We will begin Palm Sunday worship on the front steps of the church with a Processional of Palms. The Hymn of Praise will be “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will give the welcome and lead the Responsive Call to Worship. The Hymn of Praise will be “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna.” Warren Willoughby will read John 12:12-16. The Offertory Hymn will be “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.” Warren Willoughby will give the Offertory Prayer. Richard Reynolds Huss will play Jean-Baptiste Faure’s “The Palms” for the Offertory. Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will lead the Call to Confession, Prayer of Confession, and Words of Forgiveness. The Sanctuary Choir will sing “Thy Will Be Done.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “When the Light of the World is Hiding.” The Sanctuary Choir will sing “If Ye Love Me.” The Hymn of Response will be “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us.”
