On Sunday, June 9, Gator Lone Wolf spoke to several of our adult Sunday School classes. Gator is a Cherokee spiritual leader, ordained Baptist minister, and personal friend of several FBCP members. He has been a long-time faithful advocate for LGBTQ inclusion. Gator and his husband, Dominique, were two of the plaintiffs in the SCOTUS 2015 Marriage Equality Case.

Last month, Gator graciously shared with us his story about the struggle for marriage equality, including how personal faith motivated and sustained him. Part of what inspired Gator and others to push for marriage equality was the experience of a friend whose partner was seriously injured in an accident. Though the couple had been together for 10 years, because they were not legally married, the partner was not allowed to see his loved one in the hospital or receive any updates on his condition until another family member arrived. By that time, the partner had been in the emergency waiting room for hours, and his loved one had died alone. Gator reminded us that this is why marriage equality matters.

Thank you, Gator, for your advocacy and your willingness to share your story with us!
