December 22, 2024 · 10:45 am · Fourth Sunday of Advent
Each week of Advent, one of our adult Sunday School classes is serving as lay worship leaders. This week, the Current Events class is leading. Facilitated by Skip Still, Dave Alverson, and Travis Rygg, the Current Events class seeks to practice the wisdom of theologian Karl Barth: “Take your Bible and take your newspaper, and read both. But interpret newspapers from your Bible.” Using material from The Wired Word, the class aims to discuss current events in light of Scripture. The Current Events class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 in Room 309.
The Call to Worship will be “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella.” Rev. Chris Cottingham will sing “In the Bleak Midwinter.” The Current Events Sunday School Class will lead the lighting of the fourth candle of the Advent wreath. We will sing the carol “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” The Current Events SS Class will read Exodus 13:21-22 and Matthew 5:14-16 and then lead the Passing of the Peace. We will sing the carol “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming.” Richard Reynolds Huss will play “Mary’s Boy Child” for the Offertory. The Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “The Nativity Carol.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “This Little Light,” incorporating 2 Corinthians 4:5-7. The Hymn of Response will be the carol “Once in Royal David’s City.”
