January 18, 2026 · 10:45 am · Second Sunday after Epiphany
This is the season of Epiphany, a season of light, journeys, looking, and listening. This week, we will meet Jesus on his Galilean journey, as he descends the mountain from which he taught the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5 – 7) and enters Capernaum. In Matthew 8:1-13, Jesus heals a leper by his touch and a servant by his word. Healing becomes an important part of Jesus’ ministry. Through these stories of healing, may we look and listen to Jesus, our Teacher, Healer, and Savior.
Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will give the Welcome. The Call to Worship will be “Largo” by G.F. Handel. Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will lead the Passing of the Peace. The Hymn of Praise will be “Morning Has Broken.” Kitty Alverson will read Psalm 11, and Dave Alverson will read Matthew 8:1-13. The Offertory Hymns will be “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” and “There Is a Balm in Gilead.” Dave Alverson will give the Offertory Prayer. Richard Reynolds Huss will play “I Stand Amazed In the Presence” for the Offertory. Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “Healing Touch, Healing Word.” The Hymn of Response will be “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”
