April 16, 2023 · 10:45 am · Second Sunday of Easter
Good news! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

After Jesus’ resurrection, the disciples found themselves navigating a strange mixture of fear and miracles. They had heard the good news, but uncertainty persisted. What did Jesus expect them to do now? They were not always sure, but they kept gathering, they kept remembering, and Jesus kept showing up.

We too continue to live in an uncertain world. We have heard the good news, and yet we still face fear and uncertainty. Last Sunday, we celebrated the great miracle – Christ is risen! After the joyful celebration, what do we do now? May we keep gathering, keep remembering, keep doing what Jesus taught us to do. The work Jesus started continues, and it continues through us, the body of Christ.

On this Sunday after Easter, we will share communion, remembering how this meal sustained the early church through difficult times, and trusting it to sustain us as well.

The Call to Worship will be “Brother James’ Air.” Rev. Chris Cottingham will sing the Vocal Call to Worship of “He Is Exalted.” The Hymn of Praise will be “He Is Lord.” Diana Parson will read John 20:19-31 and will give the Offertory Prayer. The Offertory Hymn will be “My Jesus, I Love Thee.” The Offertory will be “I Stand Amazed in the Presence.” The Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “For Everyone Born.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will give the Communion Reflection “Carrying on the Work.” The Hymn of Response will be “The Potter’s Hand.”
