Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton
As we aspire to keep Jesus at the center of our lives, we are Rooted in Faith, and Growing in Love. We endeavor to be a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people, loving our neighbors because God first loved us.
April 21, 2024 · 10:45 am · Fourth Sunday of Easter
During the season of Easter, our Sunday sermons will explore what it means to be a part of the community of faith. Often, churches have invited people into community by encouraging them to first believe, then behave, then belong. Yet Jesus’ interactions with people often suggest that we have a place of belonging even BEFORE we believe or behave. As we continue to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, may we experience the gift of belonging as we continue to grow in our faith. This Sunday, April 21, we will reflect on the story of Thomas in John 20:19-31. How does doubt strengthen our faith? What does it mean to BELONG to Christ even through seasons of doubt?
The Call to Worship will be “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth.” The Hymn of Praise will be “Rejoice, the Lord is King.” Kim Burgess will read John 20:19-31. Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will lead the Passing of the Peace. The Offertory Hymn will be “We Are God’s People.” Kim Burgess will give the Offertory Prayer. Richard Reynolds Huss will play “I Stand Amazed in the Presence” for the Offertory. Joseph Reed will sing “The Summons.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “In Defense of Doubt.” The Hymn of Response will be “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.” Immediately following worship we will have a Called Church Conference to elect Deacons.
