Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people
Rooted in Faith and Growing in Love

December 11, 2022 · 10:45 am · Third Sunday of Advent

Today we continue our Advent theme, A Geography of Advent. The Scriptures that help us prepare for the birth of Jesus are filled with places – holy places, hard places, and pathways in between. Together, these places present “a geography of Advent” – a map of the heights and depths our good God will go to come near to us. We can meet God in the desert, but God also draws near to wherever it is we find ourselves.

We gather as a welcoming and affirming community of grace, striving to welcome ALL people. Rooted in faith and growing in love, all are welcome and wanted, just as God made you.

The Advent Hymn will be “Light the Fire, the Fire of Life.” The Cantrell Family will light the Advent Candle. Anna Leavitt will read Isaiah 35:1-10. We will have an Offertory Prayer in song as Rev. Chris Cottingham sings “In the Bleak Midwinter.” The Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “A Light Shall Shine.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “A Rejoicing Desert.” The Hymn of Response will be “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”
