Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people
Rooted in Faith and Growing in Love

December 4, 2022 · 10:45 am · Second Sunday of Advent

Sunday, December 4 is the Second Sunday of Advent. We will light the candle of peace in this season of waiting. Our Advent theme this year is “A Geography of Advent.” The Scriptures that help us prepare for the birth of Jesus are filled with places – holy places, hard places, and pathways in between. Together, these places present “a geography of Advent” – a map of the heights and depths our good God will go to come near to us. We can meet God on the mountaintop, but God also draws near to wherever it is we find ourselves.

We gather as a welcoming and affirming community of grace, striving to welcome ALL people. Rooted in faith and growing in love, all are welcome and wanted, just as God made you.

Pastor Jennifer McClung Rygg will read Psalm 122. The Advent Hymn will be “Light the Light, the Fire of Life.” The Willoughby Family will light the Advent Candle. Richard Reynolds Huss will play the organ meditation “Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne.” Kim Burgess will read Isaiah 2:1-5 and give the Offertory Prayer. Rev. Chris Cottingham will sing “When the River Meets the Sea.” The Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “The Peace Carol.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “Peace In a Landscape of Conflict.” The Hymn of Response will be “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.”
