Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
Rooted in Faith and Growing in Love

February 27, 2022 · 10:45 am · Transfiguration Sunday ∙ Communion Sunday

On this Transfiguration Sunday, the last Sunday before the season of Lent begins, we are invited to remember stories from Scripture where people encountered God in powerful ways. Like Moses on Mount Sinai and like Jesus and his disciples on the Mount of Transfiguration, may we encounter the mysterious and glorious presence of God – in worship, in prayer, and in the breaking of bread. The mystery of God’s presence cannot be captured by words, by a building, by our efforts, by our understanding. The mystery of God is always greater than anything we can build, create, say, be or do. In the face of God’s glorious presence, may we simply glow. May we reflect God’s glory, while recognizing and admitting we cannot hold on to it.

Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg  will preach the sermon “The Fullness of God’s Presence.” John Morse will read Exodus 34:29-35 and give the Offertory Prayer. Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will read Luke 9:28-36. Rev. Chris Cottingham and Anna Leavitt will sing a duet of “Be Still.” Richard Reynolds Huss will play “God of Grace and God of Glory” for the Offertory. The Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “Alleluia Canon.”
