Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people
Rooted in Faith and Growing in Love

January 4, 2023 · 6:30 pm · Epiphany Candlelight Service

Today is the 11th day of Christmas. As the Christmas season draws to an end, we reflect on the gifts of this special season. Tonight, we gather for worship, giving thanks for this community and for the opportunity to worship together.

Our Advent worship theme, A Geography of Advent, took us through mountains and deserts, to places of beauty and places of conflict. Along the way, we discovered the Advent gifts of hope, peace, joy, and love. The Advent journey leads us to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus.

But the journey continues, beyond Bethlehem. The birth of Jesus is good news for all people, everywhere. This week, we remember the visitors who came from afar to welcome this special baby. They were led by a star, and they brought precious gifts. As we worship tonight, we receive the gift of God’s presence among us. God is always near, leading us still.

The Daniel Family will light the Christ Candle. We will sing “Away in a Manger.” We will read the Christmas story according to Luke (Luke 2:1-20). We will light handheld battery-operated candles and sing “Silent Night, Holy Night.” We will hear the Christmas story according to Matthew (Matthew 2:1-12). We will offer the opportunity to receive Star Words and voice prayer concerns. We will sing “Go, Tell it on the Mountain.”
