This Sunday, we continue our sermon series “Belong, Behave, Believe” with Acts 8:26-40, the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. The eunuch asks “What is to prevent me from being baptized?” It turns out that societal divisions and religious traditions do NOT prevent him from being baptized, contrary to what many would have expected. Rather, the Holy Spirit moves the gospel far beyond where the early church thought it would, could, or should go. The Holy Spirit is still at work today, and the Good News is still for ALL. We are called to “Follow the Verbs” (this Sunday’s sermon title) and the prompting of the Holy Spirit to share the Good News:

Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will give the Welcome and lead the Passing of the Peace. The Call to Worship will be “Shall We Gather at the River?” Rev. Chris Cottingham will give the Invocation. The Hymns of Praise will be “Sing a New Church” and “Great Are You, Lord.” Bridgette Fordham will read Acts 8:26-40. The Offertory Hymn will be “Here I Am, Lord.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will give the Offertory Prayer. Richard Reynolds Huss will play “Aria on ‘JEWELS'” for the Offertory. The Sanctuary Choir will sing “Lamb of God.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “Follow the Verbs.” The Hymn of Response will be “I Surrender All.”
