Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people
Rooted in Faith and Growing in Love

November 27, 2022 · 10:45 am · First Sunday of Advent

Sunday, November 27 is the first Sunday of Advent. We will light the candle of hope as we begin this season of waiting. Our Advent theme this year is “A Geography of Advent.” The Scriptures that help us prepare for the birth of Jesus are filled with places – holy places, hard places, and pathways in between. Together, these places present “a geography of Advent” – a map of the heights and depths our good God will go to come near to us. We can meet God on the mountaintop, but God also draws near to wherever it is we find ourselves.

On this first Sunday of Advent, we welcome to our pulpit Rev. Dr. Julia Goldie Day. Julia grew up at FBCP and has previously served on staff here. She now lives near Memphis, TN. She will preach on Mary’s Magnificat in Luke 1:46-55. We gather as a welcoming and affirming community of grace, striving to welcome ALL people. Rooted in faith and growing in love, all are welcome and wanted, just as God made you.

The Call to Worship will be “Wachet Auf (Sleepers Awake).” Suzanne Morse will read Luke 1:46-55. John Morse will give the Offertory Prayer. The Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “Magnificat.” Guest Preacher Rev. Dr. Julia Goldie Day will preach the sermon “The Power of Place: A Mother’s Journey of Faith.” The Hymn of Response will be “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”
