Sermon Series on Prayer ∙ Three Prayers Not to Pray
“Lord, teach us to pray.” (Luke 11:1) What do our prayers indicate about our faith? The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, and Jesus gave them The Lord’s Prayer. What prayers have shaped your relationship with God and your understanding of the nature of prayer? This week’s sermon, “Prayers Not to Pray: The Prayer of Comparison,” is inspired by Luke 18:9-14.

Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will give the Welcome and Invocation. The Call to Worship will be “Air” by J.S. Bach. Rev. Chris Cottingham will lead the Passing of the Peace. The Song of Praise will be “Amazing Grace! How Sweet the Sound.” Becky Milam will read Luke 18:9-14. Rev. Chris Cottingham, accompanied by Richard Reynolds Huss, will sing Malotte’s “The Lord’s Prayer.” The Offertory Hymn will be “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us.” Becky Milam will give the Offertory Prayer. Richard Reynolds Huss will play J.S. Bach’s “Aria” for the Offertory. The Sanctuary Choir will sing “Now to Him,” based on Ephesians 3:20-21. Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will preach the sermon “Prayers Not to Pray: The Prayer of Comparison,”  and then lead The Lord’s Prayer. The Hymn of Response will be “Grace Alone.”
