Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pendleton!
As we aspire to keep Jesus at the center of our lives, we are Rooted in Faith, and Growing in Love. We endeavor to be a welcoming and affirming community of grace for all people, loving our neighbors because God first loved us.

September 3, 2023 · 10:45 am · Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost ∙ Baptism Sunday ∙ Communion Sunday

We will celebrate the baptism of Thomas Rygg and share Communion together. Baptism and Communion both offer us tangible ways to remember our commitment to Christ. As we see and hear the splashing of the water, as we taste the bread and the cup, we are invited once again to receive God’s abundant grace.

The Call to Worship will be “I Am the Bread of Life.” The Hymn of Praise will be “Baptized in Water.” We will celebrate the Baptism of Thomas Rygg with a prayer, his faith story (read by John Morse), and his immersion into the baptismal font. Rev. Dr. Ron McClung will read Psalm 105:1-6. The Offertory Hymn will be “I Will Sing of My Redeemer.” Rev. Chris Cottingham will pray the Offertory Prayer. The Offertory will be “How Firm a Foundation.” The Sanctuary Choir will sing the anthem “Come, Just As You Are.” Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg will read Exodus 3:1-15 and preach the sermon “Turn aside and look.” We will celebrate Communion. The Hymn of Response will be “Seek Ye First.”
