Over the past two years, nearly 15,000 people in South Carolina have died of COVID-19. The Yellow Heart Memorial is a nationwide movement dedicated to honoring the memory of those whose lives have been lost to the virus. Summer Barrios, co-chair of the Carolinas Chapter of the Yellow Heart Memorial, has coordinated memorials in Clemson and Anderson and arranged to set up the memorial at First Baptist Church of Pendleton’s prayer garden. The memorial was set up on January 13 and is scheduled to remain through February 2. The memorial is moving in its simplicity and remembrance of names, ages, and occupations of a sample of those who have died of COVID-19. Stop by sometime during daylight hours to see the memorial and say a prayer.
